Springbank 8-year-old (Japanese Edition) no packaging / 43% / 0.75l
- Springbank, founded 1828, is the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown, the once proclaimed ‘whisky capital of the world’.
Product description
Springbank, the fourteenth distillery officially registered in Campbeltown, is located in the centre of a town that was once known as the ‘Capital of Scotch Whisky’ a hundred years ago.
The glory days are long gone and now there are just three distilleries in Campbeltown (Springbank, Glengyle and Glen Scotia) producing less than a million litres of spirit per year. The first two are owned by J. & A. Mitchell & Co. and pride themselves on the fact that the entire whisky production process takes place under one roof. The old edition of the young Springbank presented here was intended for the Japanese market. The whisky was distilled before 1979, when the distillery ceased operations for almost 8 years.
Nose: fresh, fruity, lemons, limes, apples, plums, grapes, damp stones and lichen, honey, vanilla and peat smoke in the background.
Taste : slightly oily and mineral, pears, apples, grapefruits, salted peanuts, a touch of vanilla and lemon pepper and a light bitterness of oak.
Finish : quite long, with notes of lemon peel, pears, quince jelly, salt and pepper and a delicate smoke in the background.
