Springbank 12 years old has been part of the core range for decades however batches vary significantly.
Here we have an interesting bottling, in our estimate from the 1980s, presented in stylish black ceramic jug (these jugs were released in limited quantities since the early 1970s). Those days whisky single malt did not enjoy even a fraction of its present popularity and most producers were adding older whiskies to lower age destination expressions. We know for sure that the owners of Springbank had followed that trend however we cannot tell how old is the oldest component in the expression presented here.
Nose: perfectly balanced, sea breeze, moist leaves and hay, oranges, mango, apricots, eucalyptus drops, pipe tobacco, beeswax, dash of pepper and distant whiff of smoke.
Palate: rich, honey, crème brûlée, nectarines, oranges, banana bread, salted nuts, lemon grass, white pepper, cloves, hints of tobacco and peat.
Finish: long, with notes of tropical fruits, milk chocolate, licorice, mixed herbs, white pepper and fading hints of smoke.
