Product description
Springbank Local Barley is a now-iconic whisky distilled in 1965/1966 and bottled in 1990–2001 (returned to the range in 2016 with the 1999 Vintage edition).
It was distilled from barley grown on farms located in the immediate vicinity of the distillery. Already in the 90s, when single malts made up about 1% of globally sold whisky, Local Barley editions were warmly received by connoisseurs and were considered synonymous with the highest quality. All the ingredients used in production came from places located no further than 8 miles from the distillery. Here we present Springbank distilled in February 1966, aged in bourbon barrel no. 1966 498 for 32 years and bottled in August 1998 at cask strength (55.3%).
Nose: complex, sea breeze, mosses and ferns, apricots, oranges, vanilla, honey nuts, milk fudge, eucalyptus drops, a trace of tobacco and a distant hint of smoke.
Palate: rich, vanilla pudding, milk fudge, salted caramel, sultanas, oranges, pink grapefruit, lemon jam, candied ginger, white pepper, oak and mint leaf.
Finish : long, with notes of citrus, mint, vanilla salt, toffee, honey, oak tannins, white pepper and a light smoke in the background.
