The sight of Glen Scotia Distillery at the threshold of the new millennium did not inspire much optimism.
The distillery was using about 15% of its modest production capacity, and the condition of the buildings and equipment left much to be desired. However, the takeover of the distillery in 2014 by the private equity group Exponent brought a much-needed injection of capital needed for a general renovation of the facility and modernization of the equipment. Soon, production increased to over 500 thousand liters of alcohol per year, and the commercial offer was significantly more attractive. The Glen Scotia 16 years old presented here debuted in 2017, intended for exclusive distribution in the Travel Retail network. The whisky was aged in bourbon barrels with a small addition of American oak hogshead sherry barrels.
