Product description
Springbank Distillery has been in operation since 1828 and remains owned by the founding family to this day.
Its buildings are located in the centre of Campbeltown, a town and the smallest Scotch whisky producing region on the Kintyre Peninsula. As early as the 1970s, the distillery offered limited editions presented in ceramic jugs (in the case of the 10 year old versions, these were brown and black jugs). At that time, single malt whisky was experiencing a fraction of its current popularity and the rule for producers was to add old spirits to editions with a lower age statement. We know that the owners of Springbank had a similar policy, unfortunately we do not know what percentage of whisky older than 10 years is in the jug presented here.
Nose : perfectly balanced, sea breeze, damp hay and leaves, oranges, mango, apricots, eucalyptus drops, pipe tobacco, wax, a pinch of pepper and peat smoke in the background.
Palate : rich, honey, crème brûlée, nectarines, oranges, banana cake, salted nuts, lemongrass, white pepper, cloves, notes of tobacco and peat.
Finish: long, with notes of tropical fruits, milk chocolate, licorice, dried herbs, pepper and a fading whiff of peat smoke.
