Glenglassaugh, founded 1875, is a small distillery located in Eastern Highlands, about 50 miles north-west of Aberdeen.
For the most part of the 20th Century the distillery was mothballed (total of 61 years) but since the reopening in 2008 it welcomed new owners three times, the last time in the spring of 2016, when Brown-Forman Corporation acquired it along with GlenDronach and BenRiach Distilleries. Glenglassaugh Octaves Classic was launched in June 2016 (octaves are very small casks, capacity 60 liters), the second batch followed two years later. The octaves for that edition were made with staves from bourbon, Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso and Amontillado sherry casks.
Nose: malty and quite fruity, pears, raisins, dried dates and mango, honey, maple syrup, milk chocolate, toffee, vanilla, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate: smooth, milk chocolate, caramel, orange marmalade, raisins, pineapple, mango, hazelnuts, cinnamon, black tea and hints of cedar wood.
Finish: medium long, with notes of sweet dried fruit, cocoa, sweet pastries, cinnamon, aniseed and oak tannins.
