Old Pulteney Pentland Skerries Lighthouse / 46% / 1.0l
- The Old Pulteney brand has been presenting itself as the ‘Genuine Maritime Malt’ and the distillery owners put a lot of emphasis on its nautical heritage.
Product description
Old Pulteney, as its producers emphasise, is a whisky for true sea lovers.
In summer 2013, Pulteney Distillery launched The Lighthouse Collection for distribution to Travel Retail. It consisted of three no-age-statement whiskies, each named after a lighthouse near the distillery – Noss Head, Duncansby Head and Pentland Skerries – and sporting brightly coloured labels. This edition references the two lighthouses built in 1794 on the uninhabited Pentland Skerries, landmarks on the way to Orkney. The whisky was aged exclusively in sherry casks and sported a purple label.
Nose : strong sherry notes combined with the breath of the ocean, dried plums and apricots, raisins, honeyed almonds, dark chocolate, cinnamon and a trace of leather.
Taste: dried fruits and spices, raisins, dried plums and figs, ginger, cinnamon, dark chocolate with grains of sea salt, almonds and a hint of tobacco.
Finish: quite long, dark chocolate, almonds and subtle oak bitterness.
