The Dalmore Distillery, based in Alness in the northern Highlands, has been in operation since 1839. It currently has a distilling capacity of 3.8 million litres of alcohol per year, a large proportion of which goes into blends from the Whyte & Mackay portfolio.
Sales of Dalmore single malt have increased significantly in recent years, exceeding 900,000 bottles in 2013. Dalmore 15 years old debuted in 2007. After 12 years of maturation in bourbon casks, the whisky spends another three years in casks from three types of sherry – Amoroso, Apostles and Matusalem Oloroso.
Aroma: mild, lots of dried fruit (plums, apricots), fresh fruit cake, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and sherry.
Taste: rich and full, fruity, oranges, apricots, milk chocolate, raisins, traces of anise, nutmeg and ginger.
Finish: long, raisins, sweet spices and delicate nutty tones.
