Product description
In 2009, Edradour Distillery launched a Caledonia edition. It was a single cask offering , and the cask selection (an ex-Oloroso sherry filled in 1997) was made by the distillery's owner, Andrew Symington, and the renowned poet and composer Douglas Maclean.
The whisky's name refers to the title of a song written in 1977 in France by Maclean, who was consumed by homesickness for his native Scotland. (Caledonia is the Latin name for Scotland given by the Romans.) In 2010, Caledonia was included in Edradour's core range, and each batch is a faithful copy of the original single cask edition .
Nose: rather sweet, vanilla, caramel, raisins, dried dates, candied orange peel, roasted nuts and oak combined with sherry.
Palate: rich, decisive tones of sherry, vanilla, caramel, milk fudge, dried cranberries, almonds, and in the background cinnamon and nutmeg.
Finish: initially sweet, soon becoming spicy with a fairly strong oak bitterness.
