Rare Auld (meaning "Old and Unique") is an extremely prestigious series from Duncan Taylor Ltd. comprising single malt and single grain whiskies released in their natural form in single cask versions.
These unique spirits come from distilleries scattered throughout Scotland and differ, sometimes significantly, from the official editions, showing the full spectrum of the producer's potential. The Caperdonich presented here was distilled in November 1972 and spent 35 years in cask no. 7431, and its contents in August 2008 translated into 181 bottles of cask strength whisky (48.7% abv). Caperdonich Distillery ceased operation in 2002, after a few years its buildings were demolished.
Aroma : fruity and slightly grassy, apples, gooseberries, greengages, honey, cinnamon, ginger, white pepper, oak, notes of geranium and wax.
Palate: white peaches, greengages, quince jam, brown sugar, honey, nut nougat, lemongrass, white pepper, a touch of cinnamon, notes of leather and oak.
Finish: long, with notes of oak tannins, fresh herbs, pepper, green apples and lemon peel.
