Product description
The distillery's name, Glengoyne, comes from the Gaelic Glen Guin, meaning "Valley of the Wild Geese". The distillery is located about 12 miles from Glasgow and has been producing whisky since 1833.
Glengoyne began as Burnfoot Distillery, changed its name to Glenguin in 1876, and has used its current name since 1905. From 1876 to 1965, Glengoyne was owned by Lang Brothers, which was taken over by Robertson & Baxter (later Edrington Group). Since 2003, the plant has been owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, which increased sales of local single malt by 150% in 10 years. Throughout the 20th century, Glengoyne supplied malt distillate to several significant blends, including Cutty Sark, Famous Grouse and Lang's. The distillery is equipped with three stills, and its annual production is just under a million litres of distillate. It is also one of the most popular distilleries in Scotland, with over 90,000 whisky lovers visiting in 2018.
The Glengoyne single cask presented here was distilled in 1970 and aged for almost three decades in cask no. 4605. Bottled at cask strength (56% abv) in 1998 in an edition of 180 bottles.
