Knockdhu, founded 1894, was the first distillery established by DCL (Distillers Company Limited).
The distillery closed in 1983 due to whisky oversupply and five years later was acquired by Inver House Distillers, which in turn were taken over by Pacific Spirits in 2001. Since 1993 Knockdhu malt has been marketed as anCnoc and its annual sales reaching 200 000 bottles. The vintage expressions have been part of the range since 2004 and keep gaining popularity. The 2002 Vintage was released in 2017 and follows the footsteps of the highly successful 2001 from the year before. The whisky was aged in Spanish and American oak and bottled without chill-filtration at 46% abv. Only 7200 bottles were filled.
Nose: rich, honey, toffee, vanilla custard, apples, peaches, oranges, hints of ginger and aniseed, hay and oak.
Palate: fresh and dried fruits, oranges, apricots, raisins, sweetened lime juice, toffee, candied ginger, hints of leather and oak.
Finish: long, fruity and spicy, oranges, baked apples and notes of ginger and white pepper.
