Glenesk Distillery, founded in 1897, is remembered in the annals of history for having changed names five times – Highland Esk, North Esk, Montrose, Hillside and Glenesk.
In 1954, operating as Montrose Distillery, it became part of the DCL group, which renamed it Hillside 10 years later. The Hillside name survived until 1980, when it was replaced by Glenesk. Despite these efforts, the distillery was closed in 1985 and is now home to a malt house. Hillside 25 years old is one of the most sought-after editions in the Rare Malts series. The whisky was distilled in 1970 and bottled a quarter of a century later at a natural alcohol content of 60.1%.
