Product description
The name Glenfarclas translates from Gaelic to “valley of green grass.” The distillery was founded in 1836 and has been owned by the Grant family since 1865. It currently has three pairs of stills and produces 3.4 million litres of alcohol per year.
Glenfarclas is one of a handful of distilleries that age most of their spirits in sherry casks rather than using fresh bourbon casks. The 12-year-old has been a staple of the company’s offering for decades, and when compared to its 10-year-old sibling, we see a slightly greater cask influence on the palette of the spirit.
Nose: fresh, quite strong notes of sherry and spices, nuts, bitter orange jam, dried plums, cinnamon, oak and a light hint of smoke.
Taste: deep and complex with a visible sherry influence, dried plums and figs, cinnamon, nutmeg, a bit of oak and peat.
Finish: long, spicy with notes of oak, traces of dried fruit and peat smoke.
