In the early 1990s, following the considerable success of Classic Malts , United Distillers (a previous incarnation of Diageo) came up with another range of single malts .
This time they came from lesser-known distilleries, producing almost exclusively for the needs of the corporation's blends . The new series, Flora & Fauna , was labelled with an image of a representative of flora or fauna characteristic of the distillery's headquarters. Mannochmore12 years old, whose label is decorated with a woodpecker, debuted in 1992 and was the first official edition from this distillery. A few years ago, to the despair of whisky lovers, the Flora & Fauna edition disappeared from the offer.
Aroma: fresh and delicate, malty, summer meadow, barn with hay, lemon grass, a bit of walnuts, vanilla and toffee, a trace of mint.
Taste: fresh and delicate, slightly floral, breakfast cereals, lemon grass, notes of anise and licorice, candied ginger, traces of vanilla and marshmallow.
Finish: medium long, slightly dry, with notes of hay, oak and citrus peel.
