The presence of Benromach in the Rare Malts range may raise some eyebrows. The distillery came under DCL ownership in 1953 and continued to produce whisky for the next three decades.
When Diageo (DCL's successor) merged Benromach into Rare Malts the distillery was owned by Gordon & MacPhail and was preparing to restart production. The Benromach from Diageo's old stocks is very different to the one produced today, and it does not appear that another edition based on a whisky distilled before 1983 will be released.
Aroma: cereal-malty, slightly floral, quite a strong fruity note, pear candy, a bouquet of dried heather, a trace of herbs.
Taste: rich, creamy, strong oak presence, apricots, cinnamon, almonds, noticeable notes of sherry and peat.
Finish: long, slightly fruity, lots of oak, traces of peat in the background.
