Product description
Balvenie Double Wood 12 Year Old, dating back to 1993, was created thanks to the innovative vision of Malt Master David Stewart. The recipe for this single malt whisky was developed back in 1982, using a pioneering dual cask maturation method, now known as ‘cask finishing’. The process involves combining whisky matured for a minimum of 12 years in traditional American Bourbon oak barrels with whisky matured for a further 9 months in Spanish Oloroso Sherry oak barrels. Finally, the whisky spends 3-4 months in large wooden vats, where the aromas and flavours from both casks harmoniously combine.
The key to the unique character of Balvenie Double Wood is precisely the double maturation. Each stage – from American to Spanish oak, from Bourbon to sherry – brings different notes to the whisky: from vanilla and honey to dried fruit and spicy accents. Thanks to this, the whisky gains a multi-dimensional profile that has become its trademark. Over the past few years, sales of Balvenie have increased significantly, exceeding 2.7 million bottles in 2014.
