Product description
Old Ballantruan has been distilled at Tomintoul Distillery since the dawn of the new Millennium.
The distillery was founded in 1965 and since 2000 has been owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, the producers of blended whisky. While the owners label the standard Tomintoul as ‘the gentle dram’ Old Ballantruan’s profile is far from that account. The whisky is distilled from barley malted to phenols specifications of 30 ppm, aged in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 50% abv without chill-filtration. Old Ballantruan 10 years old was introduced in 2012 as a follow-up to NAS version.
Nose: peaty and sweet, vanilla, some honey, sweet cereals, bananas, traces of moss and ferns, hints of tobacco and green oak.
Palate: smoky and fruity, oranges, grapefruits, pineapples, vanilla custard and notes of pepper and ginger towards the end.
Finish: pretty long, peaty and grassy, with notes of licorice, ginger and tobacco.
