Many whisky lovers, including distillery owner George Grant, consider the 15-year-old to be the perfect Glenfarclas, best demonstrating the depth and complexity of this single malt.
The 15 year old is bottled at 46% abv, according to the current chairman, “simply because my grandfather preferred it that way; it’s still our family’s favourite”. (46% abv is quite unusual for Glenfarclas, with only the 15 and 40 year olds in the entire range being bottled at that strength.)
Nose : complex and perfectly balanced, strong tones of sherry, toffee, almonds, dried apricots and plums, with oak and smoke notes in the background.
Palate: powerful and beautifully balanced, sherry and dried fruit sweetness, malt, sweet spices, oak bitterness and traces of peat smoke.
Finish: long and decisive, sherry, nuts, dried fruit, oak and peat smoke in the background.
