Tomintoul Distillery sits on the banks of the river Avon, in the parish of Glenlivet, thus its right to use “the Glenlivet” suffix stands really tall.
The distillery was founded in 1964 by two whisky broking companies, which shortly merged with Whyte & Mackay, leading producers of blended whisky. Tomintoul single malt was launched in 1974, it was a 12 years old expression, which enjoyed rather modest popularity; 10 years old introduced in the late 1990s still remains part of the core range. The whisky is aged exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% abv. Tomintoul 10 years old scored silver medal at the 2007 International Wine & Spirits Competition.
