Product description
Black Velvet Whiskey debuted in 1951.
Previously, it was sold as "Black Label" for several months, but then-master distiller Jack Napier suggested the current name due to the whisky's "unusually delicate, velvety palette." In 2019, Black Velvet whisky was added to the Heaven Hill Distillers portfolio, which bought it from Constellation Brands. The Black Velvet Distillery (known as Palliser Distillery until 2009) based in Lethbridge, Alberta, was also part of the contract. The distillery uses the blended at birth process, which means that the distillates are blended immediately after distillation and matured as a finished blend. Annual sales of 2 million cases place Black Velvet in second place among the most popular Canadian whiskies (behind Crown Royal).
