Product description
Aikan whisky, a blend of French single malts and blended Scotch whisky, debuted in 2017 in the offering of a company based on the French island of Martinique, part of the Lesser Antilles.
Once transported to the island, the whiskies are poured into local rum barrels and matured for one to five years in the JM Rum Distillery warehouses. While French malts usually arrive on the island straight after distillation, Scotch whiskies have spent at least three years in oak barrels in their native Scotland. The name whisky translates from the Arawak language (spoken by the island’s original inhabitants) to “marriage,” and highlights the union of two continents, two climates, and two spirits (whiskey and rum).
