Glenfiddich Distillery is located in Dufftown, the capital of Scotch whisky. It was built in 1886 by William Grant, who equipped it with second-hand distilling equipment purchased from Cardhu Distillery for £119.19s.
Today Glenfiddich is the largest Scottish malt distillery capable of distilling 14 million liters of alcohol per year. Glenfiddich is the first single malt widely available outside Scotland and the first to exceed the threshold of one million cases sold, or 12 million bottles (2011). Glenfiddich 8 years old Pure Malt (single malt by today's standards) is an edition from the last century, when this whisky had a 35% share in the world single malt turnover.
Aroma: fresh, fruity and slightly malty, vanilla, honey, pears, apples, lemon peel, blooming meadow, traces of oak and peat.
Taste: breakfast cereals, apples, pears, gooseberries, vanilla, milk chocolate, a pinch of spices, a hint of hay and a light nutty note.
Finish : medium long, warming, fresh orchard fruit, barley malt, vanilla, oak and a fleeting trace of peat smoke.
