Product description
The Macallan is one of Scotland's most renowned whisky distilleries, known worldwide for its exceptional single malts. It was founded in 1824 in the Speyside region of Scotland and has maintained the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship ever since.
The Double Cask 12 year old edition presented here debuted in 2016 and was the first whisky from this distillery to be bottled with an age statement in three years. It is blended from distillates aged in American and European oak barrels, with the former dominating. The two types of oak create a perfect combination – American oak gives delicate aromas of vanilla, citrus and caramel, while European oak is responsible for the notes of spices typical of The Macallan.
Before these casks reach The Macallan, they are shipped to Spain to be seasoned with Oloroso sherry. After a seasoning period, they are returned to the Speyside distillery where they are filled with fresh spirit. After 12 years of quiet ageing, the team of Whisky Makers select whiskies from both types of oak to create a perfectly balanced single malt with a distinctive sweetness and full flavour.
