Product description
Blanton's debuted in 1984 as a forerunner of the single barrel bourbon category. Shortly before retiring, master distiller Elmer T. Lee took on a mission to create the highest quality bourbon.
His memory came back to the late 1940s, when he was a young engineer starting work at the distillery under the watchful eye of Colonel Albert B. Blanton. Before visiting friends or local dignitaries, Blanton would personally select a barrel of bourbon, always from the middle section of Warehouse H, to share with distinguished guests. Elmer T. Lee decided to follow in his mentor's footsteps, even naming the new bourbon after him. To this day, Blanton's bourbon comes exclusively from barrels stored in Warehouse H, the only metal warehouse on the distillery grounds. Its thin walls ensure that the temperature and humidity are almost identical to those outside, creating an environment for maturing whiskey that is as close to natural as possible.
Blanton's Gold is one of three versions of this bourbon intended exclusively for export and bottled at 51.5% abv. The bourbon presented here comes from 2013 and, as the producer says, "in the aromatic bouquet of Blanton's Gold, notes of rye and tobacco are balanced by the sweetness of caramel, berries and citrus; in the taste, similar elements with the addition of vanilla and honey; the finish is very long, dominated by the sweetness of vanilla and the spiciness of oak."
