Corsair Artisan Distillery was founded in 2008 by a couple of Nashville guys, Derek Bell and Andrew Webber. The Tennessee laws did not allow such ventures then and Bowling Green in neighboring Kentucky was chosen for location. Two years later regulations changed and the second distillery and brewery was opened in Nashville. Corsair produces various spirits including whiskey, their most popular expression so far was Triple Smoke Single Malt. The distillery owners are keen to experimenting with different formulas and Ryemaggedon is a fruit of such experiment. It is a 100% rye whiskey distilled from mash of 80% malted rye and 20% chocolate rye, the aged version of Corsair’s Wry Moon Rye White Whiskey. Ryemaggedon was aged for about a year in 15-gallons charred oak barrels.
Nose: rye spice, cocoa powder, licorice, caramel, hard candy and buttered toast.
Palate: pretty spicy, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, toasted rye bread, dark chocolate and a whiff of smoke.
Finish: medium long, with notes of cocoa, cinnamon and pepper.
