Turning Point Carolina Rye / 40% / 0.7l

Turning Point is an unaged rye whiskey from Southern Artisan Spirits Company based in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

The state’s third legal distillery is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains. Ironically, Kings Mountain residents were the first community in the country to vote to ban the production and distribution of alcoholic beverages (1874). The distillery is owned by twin brothers Alex and Charlie Mauney, whose Cardinal gin, made from local recipes dating back to the 18th century, won a double gold medal at the 2012 World Spirits Competition.

Turning Point debuted in 2014, distilled from a mash of 60% rye, 20% corn and 20% rye malt and bottled at 40% ABV without prior maturation. It is characterized by a pleasant spiciness, releasing notes of wholemeal, black pepper and roasted almonds. The Mauneys promise that in a few years they will present Turning Point Straight Rye Whiskey.
