Rittenhouse Rye Bottled-in-Bond / 50% / 0,7l
Product description
The Rittenhouse brand was introduced shortly after the repeal of national prohibition by Philadelphia based Continental Distilling Company, part of Publicker Industries (big producer of industrial alcohol).
The Philadelphia unit was closed in the early 1980s and soon after the brand was acquired by Heaven Hill Distillers. While originally Rittenhouse was distilled in the tradition of the classic Pennsylvania style whiskey – from mash of very high rye content, up to 80% – today’s formula consists of 51% rye, 37% corn and 12% malted barley. Here we have Bottled-in-Bond expression, meaning that it is a product of one distillation season, aged for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof (50% abv).
Nose: fruity and mildly spicy, peaches, bananas, pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, tobacco, leather and hint of toasted rye bread.
Palate: white pepper, cinnamon, touch of mint, cocoa powder, brown sugar, peanut butter, banana bread, apples, hints of leather and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of rye bread, caramel, dried fruit, pepper and lingering oaky dryness.
