- Glenfarclas Distillery has been famous for its strict wood policy and employing sherry wood for maturing whisky, with an emphasis on ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
Product description
Glenfarclas Distillery is renowned for its strict rules regarding the maturation of its whiskies – a preference for sherry casks with a bias towards ex-Oloroso, a rejection of fresh bourbon casks and a reluctance to experiment with what the company’s chairman calls “freak casks”.
The strategy seems to be paying off, with Glenfarclas sales rising to 2.4 million bottles a year and fans of the brand fiercely loyal. The Christmas Edition on display here was distilled in December 2013 and aged for around 10 years in five Oloroso sherry casks. It will be bottled at 46% abv in 2023 for a German importer in an edition of 4,200 bottles.
