Product description
Elijah Craig 23 years old Single Barrel is one of the oldest expressions ever bottled by Heaven Hill Distillery.
It is a common knowledge among whisky aficionados that bourbons age much faster than Scotch whisky and as a rule they are at its peek after 6 to 12 years spent in wood. There are few rare and notable exceptions to that rule and Elijah Craig is certainly one of them. In the late 1990s and early 2000s 18 years old Single Barrel was part of the core range, in 2012 the 20 years old expression was introduced followed by 21 years old and finally 23 years old in 2014. Such old bourbons tend to be pretty oaky and we strongly recommend to add few drops of water to the glass. Needless to say supply of Elijah Craig 23 years old was extremely limited making it truly collectors’ whiskey.
Nose: unsurprisingly very oaky, with notes of dried cherries, prunes, orange peel, cinnamon, touches of marzipan and caramel and hints of leather.
Palate: lots of charred oak, followed by notes of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and cloves, hints of black cherries, orange peel and prunes.
Finish: dry and oaky, with notes of roasted almonds, tobacco, leather and dash of pepper.
