Product description
Ancient Age Whiskey debuted at George T. Stagg Distillery in 1936, three years after the repeal of Prohibition. It was produced in Canada and advertised as a “bourbon-style whiskey.”
The distillery needed time to rebuild its stock after 13 years of drought, and it was only since the end of World War II that Ancient Age has represented the bourbon category. The brand's popularity must have been enormous, since in 1969 the distillery changed its name to Ancient Age Distillery (since 1999 it has been operating as Buffalo Trace Distillery). Ancient Age shares its formula with Buffalo Trace and Blanton's bourbons, with corn accounting for 80%, and the remaining 20% being equal parts rye and malted barley. The standard version presented here is aged for four years.
Aroma : lots of corn, caramel, vanilla, toffee, orange peel, rye toast with butter, pepper and light floral tones.
Palate : buttered popcorn, caramel, vanilla, honey, a hint of spices, traces of tobacco, hay and oak.
Finish: not too long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, pepper, a bit of citrus and oak.
