The Bulleit brand was introduced in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, whose great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, a tavern keeper and whiskey maker, was killed by Indians in 1860. Originally Tom contracted Ancient Age (now Buffalo Trace) Distillery for making Bulleit Bourbon, in 1997 Seagram took over the brand and moved production to Four Roses Distillery. Since 2001 Bulleit is part of Diageo portfolio and it is impossible to guess which distillery/distilleries supply bourbon for the brand (Diageo does not own active bourbon distillery). Bulleit Bourbon enjoys enormous popularity, between 2007 and 2014 its sales rose from 35 000 to 635 000 cases and the short term goal is 1 million cases. In 2012 Bulleit Bourbon scored gold medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
