The Cooper's Choice is a range of single malt and single grain whiskies from the portfolio of The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, founded in 1992 by Brian Crook.
The Cooper's Choice debuted a year later and pays tribute to the coopers, whose role in Scotch whisky is often underestimated. This Glen Spey 11 year old is the 2021 Cooper's Choice - distilled in June 2010, aged in American oak barrels, finished in port cask no. 803007 and bottled at cask strength (54.5% abv) and without chill filtration in an edition of 360 bottles. Based in Speyside, Diageo owns Glen Spey Distillery and has two pairs of small stills that can produce 1.4 million litres of distillate per year.
Aroma : malty and fruity, honey, vanilla, almond butter, plums, blackberries, blackcurrants, notes of pipe tobacco, pencil shavings and oak.
Palate : blackberries, black cherries, plum jam, raisins, maple syrup, honey-roasted almonds, cinnamon, vanilla and toasted oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of dark berries, almond croissants, cinnamon, cloves, a touch of anise and oak.
