The Old Bardstown brand comes from Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, which shares its property with Willett Distillery. The latter resumed distilling in 2012 after decades of renovations.
Officially, it is not known which distillery is behind Old Bardstown bourbon, although many indications suggest it is Heaven Hill. The name Old Bardstown refers to the town and a racehorse from the 1950s, who in 31 starts won 18 first places, 7 second places and finished third once. In total, he brought his owners $628,725 for his starts in races, which was more than a lot in the 1950s. Old Bardstown bourbon is bottled at 101 US Proof, or 50.5% abv.
Aroma : vanilla, caramel, cornflakes, dried plums and cranberries, fruit drops, notes of pepper and allspice and toasted oak.
Taste: fruity, with a delicate breath of earth, black cherries, dried plums, bitter orange jam, rye bread toast, notes of pepper and oak.
Finish: quite long, oaky, with notes of caramel, pepper and fresh herbs.
