- Scapegrace Gin was introduced in 2014 by The Rogue Society Distilling Company.
Product description
Scapegrace Dry Gin (the so-called Classic version) debuted in 2014 in the offer of The Rogue Society Distilling Co.
The founders are two New Zealand amateur musicians and brothers-in-law, Mark Neal and Daniel McLaughlin. The gin is produced on the South Island using water flowing down from the New Zealand Alps. The Gold version hit the market four years later and, in addition to the alcohol content raised to 57%, the formula includes a 13th botanical, dried tangerine peel. The main botanicals are: juniper berries, coriander seeds, cloves, lemon and orange peel, cardamom, nutmeg, angelica root, licorice root, orris root, cinnamon sticks and cassia bark. They are macerated in spirit and distilled in a reconstructed 19th-century copper still found in an abandoned shed. Scapegrace Gin (a word used to describe a rogue or light-hearted spirit) is presented in a dark bottle, a replica of the 19th-century vessels in which jenever was sold at the time.
In the bouquet of Scapegrace Gold we find a lot of citrus and notes of juniper, coriander and licorice. In the palette more juniper and spices balanced by the sweetness of citrus. The producer recommends serving it with tonic and a slice of orange or in a Dry Martini cocktail.
