Product description
Ungava Gin is a product of Domaine Pinnacle, a company founded in 2000 by Charles Crawford and Susan Reid. The company is based in Quebec, Canada and produces apple cider, rum, vodka, gin and Canadian whiskey.
Ungava Gin debuted in 2010 and has won more than 20 medals and accolades in less than a decade. It is made exclusively from botanicals sourced from the Ungava Peninsula, the northernmost part of Quebec. Each year, Crawford employs two locals to harvest the botanicals, which, due to the cold temperatures, takes place in August and lasts about a month. They are shipped to Cowansville (about 60 km east of Montreal) and macerated in spirits distilled from locally grown corn. The list of botanicals is quite short and includes juniper (Nordic variety), marsh, cloudberry, black crowberry, Labrador tea (rhododendron variety) and rosehips, which give the drink its characteristic yellow color.
Ungava is a gin that is unique in every way. Traditional notes of juniper and pine needles blend beautifully with a slightly tart aftertaste of berries, lemon peel and a hint of green tea. It tastes great in a Negroni cocktail and with a classic Merchant's Heart tonic garnished with a slice of grapefruit.
