In 2005 Jim Beam Global, part of Fortune Brands, became new owner of Laphroaig Distillery.
Within next few years Beam greatly extended the distillery range adding several NAS expressions, mostly double matured. Laphroaig PX Cask was introduced in 2011 as a part of Travel Retail range. Three types of barrels were used for maturation process and each contributed to the character of the final product. After spending certain time in ex-bourbon barrels spirit was transferred into quarter casks (capacity of 125 liters) and finally into ex-Pedro Ximénez casks. Laphroaig PX Cask is bottled at 48% abv and is currently available in Travel Retail outlets.
