Product description
One of the most unusual versions of the Bowmore single malt , it debuted in 1999. After a basic maturation period, the whisky was poured into red Bordeaux barrels sourced from vineyards owned by Suntory.
Bowmore Claret had a lot of trouble getting approved for sale in the US. The federal agency thought the grape cluster on the label could confuse the buyer because it suggested the bottle contained wine, not whiskey (sic!). They finally gave permission for distribution, but without the possibility of presenting it on the store shelf, which immediately elevated Claret to the status of a collectible whiskey. 12,000 bottles were released, how many are left today, probably not very many.
Aroma: intense, red fruits, rose petals, blooming heather, cedar slats, burnt tire and peat smoke in the background.
Taste: complex, honey, raspberries, dates, green tea, some spicy spices, traces of oak and peat.
Finish: very long and pleasant, toffee, sweet forest fruits, shrouded in peat smoke, a pinch of salt.
