Product description
Bowmore (founded 1779) is one of a handful of distilleries whose history spans four centuries.
Its name comes from the Gaelic bogh mòr, meaning “great reef.” In the late 19th century, Bowmore was advertised in the language of the islanders as Fioghinn agus Soir Bhuanaghadh, meaning “a spirit of extraordinary quality, with a complex palette.” Bowmore is one of a handful of Scottish distilleries that malts its own barley, providing about 30% of its barley needs. The whisky presented here was distilled on February 3, 1992, and spent the first six years in ex-bourbon barrels before being filled into French red Bordeaux oak barrels on November 20, 1998. The whisky was bottled at cask strength (53.5% abv) and without chill filtration in July 2008, in an edition of 18,000 bottles.
