Bowmore Darkest debuted in 1999 with the note on the label: From the No. 1 Vaults of Black Bowmore (the famous warehouse located partially below sea level) .
The whisky was bottled without an age statement, but the company emphasised that it had spent the last three years in Oloroso sherry casks. The Bowmore Darkest presented here remained in the range until 2007, when it was replaced by Darkest 15 years old.
Nose: rich, slightly floral, strong notes of sherry, raisins, blackcurrants, fennel, nuts, in the distance traces of peat smoke and sea salt.
Palate: A powerful hit of sherry, hazelnuts, toffee, sweet cereals, baked apples and a delicate hint of sweet spice.
Finish: long, slightly smoky, caramel with grains of salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, distinct notes of sherry.
