Product description
The Bowmore Distillery was first mentioned in 1779, when it became the first licensed distillery on Islay and the second in Scotland. Local records suggest that whisky distilling had begun there as much as 10 years earlier. A significant moment in history came when the distillery was taken over by the Mutter brothers in 1837, and the company's collection still includes bottles from the 1880s. After 50 years of running the distillery, the downturn in the whisky market forced the Mutter family to sell the estate to John Bell Sheriff of Campbeltown, who then sold it on, only to buy it back in 1925 and rename it Sheriff's Bowmore Distillery. Over the years, it changed hands several times, and today it remains in the hands of the Suntory group.
Elixir Distillers is a company that creates, blends and bottles fine spirits. With its own brands, it also creates compositions with the use of products from other distilleries, including Bowmore. This allows us to rediscover already known brands in surprising compositions.
Islay Violets 33-year-old Cognac Cask Finish / 46.2% / 0.7l
A whisky that is not clearly described on the label as coming from Bowmore. It was matured in American oak barrels, then finished in cognac barrels. This gave it a unique, surprising character.
On the nose it is very floral, combined with notes of citrus and lavender syrup. There are also leather and spice accents. On the palate it is very rich, well-built, harmoniously developing flavors of vanilla, toffee and raisins, combined with a bit of earthy accents. The finish is long and aromatic, with slightly subtle notes of violets and green grass.
