Product description
Construction of the Bunnahabhain Distillery began in 1881, and two years later the first distillate flowed from the stills.
The distillery is based in the north of Islay, near Port Askaig, and its name translates from the Gaelic for “river mouth” (the Margadale stream runs a few hundred metres from the distillery). The official 12-year-old edition debuted in 1979, when the distillery was owned by the now-defunct Highland Distillers, and Bunnahabhain produced for blends, mainly Cutty Sark and Famous Grouse. The distillery is now part of the Burn Stewart Distillery portfolio, whose assets were purchased by the South African Distell Group in 2013. The bottle shown here dates from the 1980s and is part of a batch bottled by William Teacher & Sons for a South African importer.
