Product description
With annual sales of 7.8 million cases (2018), Hennessy is the undisputed leader in the cognac category (second in the ranking, Martell, recorded sales of 2.6 million cases).
The company was founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, and is currently owned by LMVH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy). Hennessy Black, the company's first mass product this century, debuted in 2009. It was created with the American consumer in mind and recommended for use in cocktails and serving with so-called mixers. According to the producer, Black "consists of 45 different eau-de-vie aged in barrels used by Hennessy for at least five years," meaning that the period of five years refers to the barrels, and the eaux-de-vie themselves spent no less than two years in them, which is the minimum maturation time for this category.
