Product description
L'Or de Jean Martell is the quintessence of cognac and a signature of Maison Martell. This unique blend of over 400 eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne and Borderies regions contains components aged for over a hundred years.
In the words of Martell cellar master Christopher Valtaud: "L'Or is a perfect balance of aromas and a powerhouse of flavours. This marriage of several hundred exceptional eaux-de-vie remains a model of harmony and represents the centuries-old philosophy of the Martell house." L'Or de Jean Martell is presented in a teardrop-shaped crystal decanter designed and crafted by the masters of the Manufacture de Cristal de Sèvres, a famous producer of artistic glass. (Producer's tasting note.)
Aroma: at the beginning, notes of orange peel and bergamot interwoven with forest berries and blackcurrant; Christmas gingerbread, cloves and cinnamon in a clash with the sweetness of vanilla, and in the background the scent of ancient forests with notes of myrrh, undergrowth and forest floor.
Taste : Initially silky and a bit shy; after a while, intense notes of blackcurrants and forest berries enriched with a touch of herbs open the way for a gingerbread rich in dried fruit and candied orange peel. The complex structure is due to the extended maturation of the eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne region used in the blend, which is most noticeable in the endlessly long finish.
