Product description
Asbach is a German brandy whose history dates back to the end of the 19th century.
The company was founded by Hugo Asbach, who had previously worked for a French cognac importer, in Rudesheim am Rhein. His first product, Asbach Uralt, hit the market in 1892, advertised as “Rüdesheim Cognac.” It gained considerable popularity, but the Treaty of Versailles, signed after World War I, forbade the use of the term “cognac” for spirits originating outside the Cognac region. As a result, Asbach reclassified its brandy as “Weinbrand,” which became an official category in Germany in 1923. The basic version of Asbach Uralt presented here is distilled mainly from Spanish grapes and aged in Limousin oak barrels for at least three years.
