Product description
Brandy Cardenal Mendoza is produced by Bodegas Sánchez Romate, the company founded by Juan Sánchez de la Torre in 1781, and one of the few in Jerez, which is still in hands of local owners.
In 1877 Sánchez Romate started producing brandy for private consumption. The brandy immediately gained excellent reputation and the family decided to produce it in commercial quantities. The brandy is named after cardinal Don Pedro González de Mendoza (1423-1495), a prominent figure in 15th-century Spain, a counselor to King Fernando II and Queen Isabel I. Cardenal Mendoza Nebulis is a pretty interesting proposition. The name means “from the cloud” in the Latin, and comes from the clouds of smoke that form when 250-liters are toasted with the vine-shoots. Once the toasting is done these casks are filled with 15 years old Clásico brandy.
Nose: soft smoke, caramel, vanilla, mocha, prunes, orange peel, roasted almonds, cinnamon, dash of pepper, traces of leather and oak.
Palate: follows the nose, sherry, smoked plums, caramel, vanilla, raisins, blood oranges, milk chocolate, nougat, hints of tobacco and oak.
Finish: medium long, mildly smoky, with notes of dried fruits, roasted almonds, mixed herbs, sherry and oak.
