The word “brandy” comes from Dutch and means “burnt wine”. In the 16th century, Dutch merchants distilled wine and transported it in barrels. The Familia Torres Company was founded in 1928 by Juan Torres Casals, while Bodega Torres has been operating since 1870. Juan began producing brandy from white wines from the Penedés region (Catalonia); he distilled and matured them in oak barrels. The introduction to Torres’ brandy offering is the 5-year-old Solera Reserva, distilled from three grape varieties – Macabeu, Parellada and Xarel-lo, and aged in American oak barrels using the solera system.
