Product description
Gran Duque D'Alba XO is a premium brandy produced by the Williams & Humbert bodega.
The company was founded in 1877 by Alexander Williams, a sherry connoisseur and advocate, and Arthur Humbert, an international relations specialist. Today, the company owns over 1,200 acres of vineyards in Jerez and the largest bodega in Europe, housing 60,000 barrels of sherry and brandy. Gran Duque D'Alba is named after the Grand Duke of Alba, Fernando Alvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, a 16th-century general who was an advisor to the Spanish kings Charles I and Philip II. After 12 years of solera maturation, this XO was aged for an additional six years in American oak barrels that had previously been used to age Don Guido Pedro Ximénez sherry.
Nose: intense brown sugar, vanilla, cocoa powder, raisins, dried figs and dates, orange peel, cinnamon, a touch of coriander and sherry-soaked oak.
Palate: rich, raisins and sultanas, dried apricots and figs, caramel, vanilla, milk chocolate, cinnamon, notes of nutmeg, sherry and oak.
Finish: quite long, with notes of caramel, toffee, mocha, sweet dried fruits, hazelnuts, allspice and oak.
