The word “brandy” comes from Dutch and means “burnt wine.” In the 16th century, Dutch merchants distilled wine and transported it in barrels. The Familia Torres Company was founded in 1928 by Juan Torres Casals, while Bodega Torres has been operating since 1870. Juan began producing brandy from white wines from the Penedés region (Catalonia); he distilled and matured them in oak barrels. Torres Reserva Imperial Brandy debuted in 1946 and remains a key part of the range to this day. Over the decades, it has won many prestigious awards, the most recent being a double gold medal awarded in 2022 by the judges of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. For two years, the drink has been on the market in new bottles and with a new label.
