In October 2015 Chivas Bros. unveiled the first installment of their Ultimate Cask Collection range, the series of 18 years old Chivas Regal whiskies finished in different types of casks.
The Ultimate Cask Collection is bottled at special strength of 48% abv to further concentrate flavor notes of the original expression and is available exclusively in Travel Retail outlets. The first limited edition of Chivas Ultimate Cask Collection had been finished in first fill American oak casks followed by first fill French Oak Finish in 2017. The third edition was launched in the late 2018 and featured whisky finished in first fill Japanese Mizunara oak. Mizunara oak grows very slowly, it is extremely expensive and rare thus pretty seldom used for whisky aging.
Nose: sweet and smooth, honey, vanilla, raisins, dried apricots, oranges, banana bread, sugared nuts, candied ginger, cloves and a touch of oak.
Palate: rich and fruity, oranges and tangerines, apples and pears, honey, vanilla, caramel, nutmeg, cloves, roasted nuts and well integrated oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of fruity sweetness perfectly balanced with oriental spices.
